Background Information
The skilled trades profession is an excellent employment opportunity that can provide exceptional remuneration, high demand and great opportunities for students. The Department of Education invested $11 million in a new high school skilled trades program. The courses are practical and engage students in a variety of activities associated with technology and skilled trades – from simple construction and small engine repair, to the design and development of programs using computers and robotics. The program is an excellent way for students to explore the skilled trades which can offer endless opportunities and excellent pay for the province’s young people.
The high school skilled trades program will empower the students with the skills and experience necessary to enter the skilled trades industry. There is a significant urgency with the promotion of skilled trades as demonstrated with the Long Harbor project, Lower Churchill Falls or right here in C.B.S. The high school skilled trades will have a direct impact on employment demands throughout the province.
